Ballet Class
Our progressive ballet classes start with an introduction to ballet structure through beginning barre work, port de bras, centre practice, allegro (jumping) and eventually pointe work where appropriate. All classes include the development of a dance vocabulary and draw on classical repertoire. Specific attention is paid to proper skeletal alignment and muscle development to ensure correct dance technique and good health. Ballet improves body posture, grace and strength and is the fundamental training that applies to all other dance forms. A pianist accompanies each class.

Workshop Classes

This class focuses on movement sequences and patterning, taking ballet technique and applying it to the creation of dances. Workshop enables students to build performance skills and develop artistry through informal demonstrations throughout the year, all while giving students opportunities to perform and present their hard work.

Enrichment Ballet
Enrichment Ballet classes serve as an additional class per week for students in Intensive Training levels 3-12.  These classes consist of open class work that focuses on basic technique and artistry required in the syllabus exercises from each level.Only students registered in their corresponding Enrichment Ballet class will be eligible to be considered for Cecchetti or Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) exams.  Students will be offered examinations when the teaching staff feels that they are well prepared.

Preparation for Professional Division
Our Preparation for Professional Division Program is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in classical ballet. This program is an after school, intensive program focused on building a strong technical foundation for classical ballet.
Students entering Grade 5 and 6 will take classes 3 days per week including ballet, preparation for pointe, modern, and choreographic based workshop. Optional classes include an additional Enrichment ballet class and jazz class, these are strongly encouraged. Students will receive training from our highly qualified Professional and Open Division faculty who will continuously monitor and assess students to determine their potential for entering the Full Time Professional Division which begins in Grade 7. The Pre-Professional Division Program will fall under the umbrella of the Open Division and will be overseen by the heads of the program, Julie Coleman and Maria Crothers.

Pointe Class
An exciting part of a ballet student’s training, pointe work requires strength and excellent body alignment. Emphasis is on technique and strength building through barre exercises and combinations in the centre. Participation in pointe work is by teacher approval only and criteria includes age or physical development of body, structure of the foot, level of strength and flexibility and level of technique. All students being considered for pointe work will be sent for an x-ray and a doctor’s assessment to ensure their bones, muscles and joints can withstand the rigours of being on pointe.

Modern Class
A class to explore the principles and complex rhythmical structure of modern dance. Emphasis is on technique, placement, body-alignment and performance quality. Modern class includes travelling movement sequences and movement combinations and is an essential complement to our ballet training program. A fusion of contemporary movement and ballet technique, Modern fosters a freedom of movement, develops flexibility, and works core strength and conditioning.

Jazz Class
Jazz is a fun class set to contemporary music, which helps to develop style and versatility while increasing flexibility, building strength and improving coordination. Classes stress alignment and functional body placement, and consist of warm-up floor and core work, centre technique progressions in kicks, jumps and turns across-the-floor patterns and a final combination movement that is physical and energetic.
