This year we are happy to present some of Canada’s most revered choreographers. Our contemporary showcase will see works by Davida Monk, Peggy Baker, Sasha Ivanochko and Graham McKelvie, all who are highly sought after as teachers, pedagogues, and choreographers.

Davida Monk began her career in 1985 with Le Groupe de la Place Royale in Ottawa and has since presented across Canada and Europe. Monk has been the director of dancer’s studio west  in Calgary from 2008 until 2018 and is Associate Professor Emerita at the University of Calgary.

Peggy Baker is an icon in the Canadian contemporary dance scene and has danced with Canadian companies such as Dancemakers, Toronto Dance Theatre, Lar Lubovich dance company as well as Mikhail Barishnikov’s the White Oak Project in the United States among others. The School of Alberta Ballet will present Baker’s, the Choreographers Trust, an ongoing legacy that keeps Baker’s choreographic legacy alive.

Sasha Ivanochko is one of Canda’s leading choreographers and the Director of Ivanochko et Cie as well as the newly appointed Director of Dancer’s Studio West. Her work has been presented across North America.

Graham McKelvie, is the current Director of Contemporary Training at the School of the Alberta Ballet. Along with teaching contemporary technique classes and setting repertoire, Mr. McKelvie oversees the development and expansion of the new Dedicated Contemporary Dance Stream to create a world-class program for the School’s Professional Division students. His professional works have been presented across Canada and Japan.
